Fedora Core 3
Assuming that you have Fedora Core 3 installed, and had not enabled Tamil during installation; you can enable Tamil using the following steps...
1. Download and save the Tamil font-pack rpm fonts-tamil-1.10-2.noarch.rpm in a folder.
2. Use the following command to install the RPM using linux terminal.
$ cd <folder_location_goes_here> $ rpm -ivh fonts-tamil-1.10-2.noarch.rpm
3. Then Restart X (Ctrl+Alt+BackSpace)
Now you would be able to browse and read any Tamil Unicode pages and using your Fedora Core 3 box.
4. If you still find problem in reading tamil mails using firefox, you need to check the firefox version installed in your FC3 computer. By default, FC3 comes with firefox 1.0 . We need to upgrade this to atleast 1.0.7 to view tamil correctly.
5. To update the firefox version use the following commmand: $ yum update firefox

The latest ubuntu linux version 5.10 comes with tamil fonts preinstalled. So tamil(unicode) websites can be viewed without need to make any change.
